A section of the M25 was closed in both directions following a serious incident this evening.
The carriageway was shut between Junction 6 (Godstone) and Junction 5 (Sevenoaks), with the M26 also shut at Junction 3 (Wrotham).
Several emergency vehicles were in attendance, including at least six police vehicles and an ambulance.
As of about 7pm, the motorways had reopened but lengthy delays remain.
A statement released by Surrey Police earlier says: “Officers are on the scene following a report of a concern for safety on the M25 this evening.
“Road closures have been put in place and currently both carriageways between Junction 5 and 6, near to Clackett Lane Services, are shut.”
National Highways said traffic conditions were not expected to return to normal until at least 9.15pm.
