The Shards is an adaption of the Bret Easton Ellis’s 2023 book of the same name. It follows a fictional serial killer in 1980s Los Angeles who begins haunting a group of high school students. In July, Igby Rigney signed on to star as a young Ellis in the series, per Variety. Kaia and Murphy, meanwhile, previously worked together on both American Horror Story and American Horror Stories.
As for Kaia and Homer’s parents? The former couple were married from 1991-1995 and do not have any children together. (Kaia is the daughter of Cindy and her husband Rande Gerber; Homer is the son of Richard and his ex-wife Carey Lowell.)

In 2015, Cindy explained that she and Richard “didn’t spend enough time together” throughout their marriage and that their 17-year age gap played a role in their eventual split.
“I think part of the problem in our relationship was that we were a lot of other things, but I don’t know if we were ever friends—like peers, because I was young, and he was Richard Gere,” she said during an appearance on Marc Maron’s “WTF” podcast. “And then, as I started kind of growing up and growing into myself—it’s hard to change the nature of a relationship once you’re already in it.”
