The Toronto Blue Jays have been a frustrating team for many opposing pitchers this season, something Blake Snell has quickly found out.

The Los Angeles Dodgers ace, who gave up five runs through 6.2 innings versus the Blue Jays in the opening game of the World Series, was back on the mound for Game 5.

The Blue Jays once again got to Snell, launching back-to-back solo home runs off of him to kick off the outing. He was able to settle in after that, but still wound up departing the game having once again given up five runs through 6.2 innings in what ended up being a 6-1 victory for Toronto.

After the game, Snell, who was clearly frustrated, suggested that the Blue Jays had luck on their side more than anything else throughout Game 5. He was particularly irritated by Davis Schneider’s home run to start things off, as well as a triple from Daulton Varsho in the seventh.

“They didn’t really get to me. First pitch of the game, 97 fastball up and in, he hits it 98 and it goes out. Pretty unlucky,” Snell said.

“Varsho hits a triple on a 78 exit velo. That’s just unlucky. I’m not one to make excuses or anything close to that, but that’s just pretty unlucky.”

While Snell maintained that he wasn’t making excuses, his comments immediately after seemed to go against that, and Jays fans were sure to let him know it.

That wasn’t all Snell had to say. Whether it was an intentional shot or not, he was quick to compliment Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s hitting abilities but didn’t seem to think too highly about the rest of the Jays’ lineup.

“Vlad’s a really good hitter, so you’ve gotta do stuff there,” Snell said. “The rest of their lineup… Yeah, they were ambushing. If we get to Game 7, I’ll see them again, so I can’t say much.

“Vlad, good hitter. Schneider, I mean, he hit it one mile harder than I threw it, good location. Varsho triple, curveball capped, like. Luck plays in baseball, too.”

Many Blue Jays fans picked up on what appeared to be a subtle dig towards the rest of the lineup and are hoping it can add more fuel for their team ahead of Game 6.

“‘Vladdy is a good hitter. The rest of them……..’ Fuel for the Jays,” one fan wrote on X.

Regardless of how he meant these comments to come across, they have clearly irritated Blue Jays fans. The entire city of Toronto, along with the entire country of Canada, will be hoping to have the last laugh on Friday, where the Blue Jays will be crowned World Series champions should they come out on top.
