A motorcycle rider has been injured after crashing when attempting to flee police at Woodberry on Thursday night.

Officers attached to Port Stephens-Hunter PD attempted to stop an allegedly unregistered vehicle on Kingstown Road about 7.40pm on 30 October.

They claim the motorcyclist slowed to allow the pillion passenger off the bike before he fled into a home on the same thoroughfare.

The rider then accelerated away from the officers.

However, he lost control of the bike and hit a pole before coming into contact with a police vehicle.

The 28-year-old received medical assistance until the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics.

He was then taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.

The incident will form part of an internal review and inquiries are continuing.
