Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis, in an interview with the radio station Parapolitika, announced increases in EYDAP’s water rates.
He noted that EYDAP will announce the exact rates, however, according to the company’s briefing to the government, the planned increases are minimal.
“The country will continue to have one of the cheapest water supplies in Europe,” he said.
According to Marinakis, the main issue is the broader problem of drought, stressing the need to complete long-delayed infrastructure projects.
“We are at the eleventh hour regarding drought and water reserves, especially in Attica,” he said, adding that projects to address the issue will move forward in the coming years.
Moreover, he described the Greek state’s 51% ownership in EYDAP as non-negotiable and took aim at the opposition, stating that “the privatization of water is, once again, going down the drain.”
