November’s night sky events: Taurids meteor shower & more

Heads up, skywatchers: the Taurid Meteor Shower is active now through December 10! 🔭

With peak nights on November 4–5 and 11–12, this year could bring a rare “fireball swarm”. These would be extra-bright meteors from two overlapping streams, the Northern and Southern Taurids.… pic.twitter.com/MiHE3fBVKH

Full Beaver Supermoon

Appearing just around the time when beavers start preparing for the winter season (hence the name ‘Beaver Supermoon’), this celestial wonder will reach peak illumination on November 5, 2025, at 8:19 am EST.

The second supermoon of the year stands out from the rest because during this transition, the moon will make its closest approach to Earth in 2025, earning it the title of a Super Supermoon!

Taurids Meteor Shower

Originating from the constellation ‘Taurids’, this meteor shower is split between Northern (likely to peak on November 5, the same day as the Beaver Supermoon) and Southern Taurids (predicted to peak on November 9). The Taurids are synonymous with fireballs (bright meteors) that are best admired between midnight and dawn.

You can expect up to five meteors per hour during the Taurids meteor shower in November 2025, according to a report by the Indian Express.

Leonids Meteor Shower

Forecast between November 16-17, the Leonids meteor shower, emerging from the constellation ‘Leo’, is famed for its unrivalled speed. They also have a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records, under the ‘Fastest Meteor Shower’ category.

Saturn’s Ring Plane Crossing

In a rare phenomenon, Saturn’s glorious rings, which extend roughly between 7,000 km to 80,000 km from the planet’s surface, will disappear completely or appear as a wafer-thin line on November 23, 2025. This is due to the celestial rarity where the Earth will align in proximity to Saturn’s ring plane system, making the rings almost invisible, even through a telescope.

If you’re looking to spot this phenomenon, set your gaze about 45 degrees above the horizon, towards the south. Narrowing the search further, look between the Aquarius and Pisces constellations.

T+L tip

Head to wider plains away from tall buildings and city lights for a higher chance of catching celestial wonders.
