Tom Prebble has today given his first TV interview since sustaining life-changing-injuries in a race fall, with the courageous jockey expressing his hopes for the future and offering his thanks for the GoFundMe page which has been set up to assist with his long-term rehabilitation.

During the course of an emotional interview on Victoria Derby Day alongside his famous father Brett, Prebble Jnr revealed how he is coming to terms with his life in a wheelchair and his willingness to explore a range of new treatments which will enable him to lead as fulfilling a life as possible.

Almost two months on from the spinal cord injury he suffered when falling from his horse at Warrnambool, Prebble has been diagnosed by doctors at The Alfred Hospital with a ‘complete ASIA A paraplegia at T4 level’.

Essentially, this means that he has no sensory or motor function below the T4 spinal cord level, resulting in complete paralysis from the chest down.

However, he has retained arm function and in a sign of his determination to adjust to his new circumstances, Prebble’s first wish – with the assistance of the GoFundMe donations – is to acquire a road-based handcycle.

Prebble, who rode a career total of 123 winners – including one in Stakes grade at Flemington, was widely considered one of the rising stars of the Victorian jockey ranks.

The intention of the GoFundMe page, which was started by family friend Sally Tsalikidis, is to provide Prebble with an opportunity to explore emerging treatments into the future, particularly abroad, and to provide financial stability as he embarks on a new life out of the saddle.

The 2024-25 Victorian metropolitan apprentice premiership winner is keen to travel internationally, with Japan top of his wish list, and funds raised will help him tick items off his bucket list.

All funds raised via the GoFundMe crowdfunding platform will be paid directly into Prebble’s bank account. To make a donation, you can visit
