  • November 1, 2025

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency in response to a potential lapse in SNAP benefits.

In an executive order signed Friday, Oct. 31, Gov. Beshear directed that an initial $5 million, sourced from the budget reserve trust fund, be disbursed to Feeding Kentucky food banks.

Feeding Kentucky’s food banks provide food and groceries in 120 counties, and reach an estimated one in seven Kentuckians annually, according to a press release from Gov. Beshear’s office.

The press release said the allocation of funds is meant to “ensure Kentuckians have access to food over the next few days.”
