Former US President Barack Obama has officially offered to serve as a personal advisor to Zohran Mamdani if he is elected mayor of New York City. According to a report in The New York Times, the former president told Mamdani in a phone call over the weekend that “your campaign is impressive” when offering to be a political advisor and guide after the election. Obama, who typically does not intervene in local elections, expressed unusual personal involvement in the conversation and emphasized that he would “invest in Mamdani’s success beyond the election itself.” This positions Mamdani, a 34-year-old Democratic Socialist from New York State, as one of the young figures Obama identifies as having future leadership potential in the party.
