Temperatures tonight will fall to between 2 and 6C before Sunday morning sees some dry weather with a mix of sunshine and some scattered showers.

However, it will turn cloudier through the day, with patchy rain and drizzle over the western half of the country in the evening. The highest temperatures in the afternoon will range between 9 and 12C.

Meanwhile, the rain will affect all areas on Sunday night. It will be heavy at times and become more showery in nature overnight.

But the night will remain mild, with temperatures dropping to 12 and 14C and some fresh to strong winds.

Next week will start with further spells of rain on Monday, some of which will be heavy, with temperatures between 13 and 15C.

Low pressure will dominate the weather in Ireland in the coming days, and will bring unsettled conditions with rain, showers and blustery winds, the national forecaster said.

Met Éireann meteorologist Matthew Martin said: “It’s a changeable picture over the next few days, with spells of heavy rain and showers moving in from the Atlantic at times.”

“But there will be good, dry and sunny spells also,” he added.
