GREAT BARRIER REEF (WKRC) – The remainder of a cruise was canceled following the death of an 80-year-old passenger left behind on a remote island.
Suzanne Rees was reported missing on Oct. 25 and then found dead on Lizard Island in the Great Barrier Reef, off Queensland, the next day, BBC and ABC reported.
Rees had been hiking on the remote island when she allegedly stopped to rest and became separated from her group. The ship departed without Rees when she “failed to board.”
An Australian news outlet reported that Rees may have died after falling down a cliff.
Passengers and crew aboard the ship were notified on Oct. 29 that the cruise would not continue.
