FT: Chelsea 2-0 London City Lionesses
Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor speaking to Sky Sports: “I’m really pleased with the result and the performance. It’s never easy to win a game after the international break. You don’t have time to prepare the way you want. We didn’t have the energy we wanted to have in the first half. It was a team performance and a good result.
“As a whole, we had a really good game defensively. We didn’t concede a lot, we kept a clean sheet. It’s a good result.”
On Ellie Carpenter and Lucy Bronze: “I’m pleased with both of them. They’re great and important players for us. They can play together in the right corridor. They are experienced and their quality is good for us.”
On the goal-scorers: “I’m really proud of all of my players. I’m proud of Sam and Ellie – the Aussies scored. I think today more than the individuals, it’s a team performance. Everyone contributed to the performance and the result.”
On Sandy Baltimore’s half-time substitution: “She’s fine. I felt we needed more energy and fresh legs coming into the game. Sandy played a lot for the national team, Niamh [Charles] had not played a lot of minutes. She did well.”
On Hannah Hampton and the clean sheet: “Hannah is a great professional. It’s great for me to have her in my team. I think she’s the best goalkeeper in the world, so it’s best to have her in my team.
“Everyone works hard in this team, starting from the forwards. Everyone is helping each other not to concede a lot of goals. This mentality is a great one to have when you want to perform at the highest level.”
