BOONE, N.C. (WLOS) — Rescuers and aid workers are fanning out across Jamaica to help where they are needed after Hurricane Melissa barreled through the Caribbean. That includes the Boone-based nonprofit organization, Samaritan’s Purse.

Less than 48 hours after Melissa made landfall in Jamaica, Samaritan’s Purse said team members had already deployed with more than 38,000 pounds of aid.

The nonprofit then launched two more batches of aid. The latest left on Sunday carrying an emergency field hospital to the island nation. The field hospital is planned for the hard-hit Black River area because the local hospital was destroyed during the storm.
