Four people have been taken into custody after an attempt to enter a B.C. border crossing illegally from the United States into Canada.

The RCMP has shared some of the details of the Oct. 8 incident, pointing out that U.S. and Canadian law enforcement officials joined forces in the response.

RCMP said that three individuals attempted to flee on foot, pursued by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials. The individuals unlawfully entered Canada near Northwoods Road in Lynden, Washington and 0 Avenue in Abbotsford.

“The three individuals, as well as the driver, were arrested and turned over to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) for further investigation and processing under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA),” RCMP said in a release.

RCMP said that the incident highlights the “ongoing cooperation” between Canadian and American agencies “in responding to unlawful cross-border activity.”

In late September, the Abbotsford Police Department was involved in a similar incident near a B.C. border crossing.

According to the Abbotsford Police Department, the five border runners who were arrested were in connection with three separate border running incidents. Four of the individuals were turned over to the Canadian Border Services Agency, and one individual was arrested on an outstanding warrant.
