Unsavoury scenes which followed the conclusion of last Sunday’s Wexford SFC final at Chadwicks Wexford Park are the subject of a garda investigation.
Castletown retained their title after a four-point win against Shelmaliers but celebrations quickly turned sour as a brawl broke out between rival players, mentors and fans who got on to the pitch.
A teenager was taken to hospital in the aftermath while it’s also alleged that a supporter received a broken nose.
In a statement to RTÉ Sport, a garda spokesperson said that an investigation is being carried out into the alleged assault on the teenager.
The full statement read: “Gardaà attended the scene following report of an incident of alleged assault that occurred at a sports ground in Wexford on Sunday 2nd November 2025.
“A male youth (aged in his late teens) was conveyed to Wexford General Hospital for treatment of injuries believed to be non-life-threatening at this time.
“Investigations are ongoing.”
Wexford GAA are also conducting their own investigation.
County chairperson John Kenny said it is something they are taking “very seriously”.
Speaking to the Wexford People, he said: “I was in the stand at the time and it happened at the other side of the pitch. I just saw the congregation of people out on the pitch.
“It’s a very regrettable situation and one that we will be taking very seriously.”
There was a Wexford GAA management meeting on Monday night, with Kenny adding that a “further statement” which will be forward to the disciplinary committee, will be issued.
