Trent Alexander-Arnold‘s mural close to Anfield has been vandalised ahead of Real Madrid‘s visit in the Champions League.
Alexander-Arnold is back on Merseyside for the first time as a rival player since joining the Spanish side in the summer, with the full-back expected to start from the bench.
His Anfield return has stirred up plenty of headlines and emotion, and his mural at the corner of Sybil Street and Anfield Road has been vandalised ahead of Tuesday’s match.
Images surfaced online showing the mural awash with white paint and the words ‘RAT’ and ‘ADIOS EL RATA’, which translates to ‘Goodbye Rat’.

It is not the first time the mural has been defaced since his exit, but this is the furthest the defacement has been taken.
With a lot of white paint strewn across the sidewalk, the process of it being cleaned up has already started ahead of the Champions League fixture.
Alexander-Arnold was bestowed the tribute in 2019 following the club’s Champions League success, with the mural designed with inspiring young local players in mind.
The Anfield Wrap commissioned the work which was painted by French graffiti artist Akse, which included the words, “I’m just a normal lad from Liverpool whose dream has just come true.”
However, the toxic end to his Liverpool career has seen no love lost with a player who was once proudly declared ‘the Scouser in our team’.

Nice to see Trent got the Madrid kit added to his mural. Into them tonight red men. pic.twitter.com/asbek1WncW

Have to say it’s disappointing seeing some Liverpool fan has put “El Rata” on the side of Trent’s Mural.
It should be “la rata” because “rata” is a feminine noun in Spanish. The benchwarmer’s spanish teacher won’t like seeing this ? https://t.co/47i9OKy32V pic.twitter.com/6E3hhvVMvF

I personally don’t condone this at all. Not for Trent but for the artist that worked hard on it. I assume the artist dislikes Trent too but he probably dislikes what happened to his hard work even more.
Don’t do this please. https://t.co/9ZWum30T5T
