The two men who lost their lives in separate road collisions in County Galway in recent days have been named locally.

Nationally, four people lost their lives in crashes over the weekend.

On Friday, Gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrioan on the N83 at Loughgeorge, Co. Galway at around 11:30am.

82 year old Martin ‘Mattie’ Canavan was struck by a vehicle on the Tuam Road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr. Canavan, from Slivefinn, Claregalway, is survived by his brothers Johnny and Tom, extended family and many friends.

He will be laid to rest tomorrow in Cregg Cemetery following Funeral Mass in St. Brendan’s Church, Corrandulla.

On Saturday, a single vehicle collision was reported on the L2107 at Lavally, Tuam, at approximately 4:30am.

Mark McGreal, aged in his 30s, was the sole occupant of the vehicle, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr. McGreal, who lived locally in Meelick, Lavally, is deeply missed by his heartbroken parents Catherine and John, three siblings Robert, Deborah and Rachel, extended family and wide circle of friends.

His Funeral Mass will take place on Friday at 12:30pm at the Cathedral of the Assumption, Tuam, followed by cremation in Shannon Crematorium.
