The ambulance service was called to a property in Layer Close in the Bowthorpe area of the city in the early hours of Monday.

Officers arrived to find a man aged in his 70s with stab wounds.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Moses Fernandes, a British national of Layer Close, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and was taken to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital to be checked over for breathing difficulties.

He was discharged on Monday morning and taken to Wymondham police station for questioning.

Following an extension and further investigation, Fernandes was charged with murder and will appear before Norwich Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday morning.

Floral tributes have been left for the victim, who was called Terry, outside the Bowthorpe property.

The home is owned by Terry’s partner, 75-year-old Jenny Holmwood, who has strong connections with Bowthorpe Church.

It backs onto a woodland area and is located near the Youth and Community centre.
