An Israeli couple was arrested in Thailand on Tuesday after having sex, in view of the public, at the Wang Sai Thong waterfall on the popular Ko Pha Ngan island, local media reported.
The couple’s antics were recorded and uploaded to social media, provoking a firestorm in Thailand, according to the Thaiger news site.
After the clip started circulating, local police launched an investigation and discovered the couple were staying at a hotel in the area.
Police and immigration officers arrested the pair at the hotel, and took them to the island’s immigration office for questioning.
The couple admitted to being the people in the video, and confirmed they were filmed having sex, according to authorities.
The Israeli tourists were charged with public obscenity and transferred to the police station.
Police officials told local media that the couple’s behavior not only violated Thai law, but was also disrespectful of the local culture.
