Two people have died following a crash on State Highway 2 at Karangahake.
Police were called to the crash between Jackson Rd and Rahu Rd about 11.40pm.
“A car collided with a power pole and tragically both the driver and passenger were killed,” a police statement said this morning.
NZ Transport Agency said SH2 Karangahake remained closed between SH26 and Rahu Rd.
The detour is through Matamata.
Inquiries into the crash were under way.
