LOS ANGELES — MLB free agency opens Thursday, and the Los Angeles Dodgers are once again positioned to dominate the offseason rumor mill. Oddsmakers at BetOnline.ag have installed the Dodgers as the favorites to sign Toronto shortstop Bo Bichette, while also listing them among the leading contenders to land Houston outfielder Kyle Tucker and third baseman Alex Bregman if they reach new destinations.
Los Angeles sits at 5/2 odds (+250) to sign Bichette, the shortest odds of any team. The Braves (3/1) and Yankees (4/1) trail closely behind, but the Dodgers are viewed as the early leaders should the All-Star shortstop leave Toronto. Bichette, a two-time Silver Slugger, posted a combined .303 average with 69 home runs over the last three full seasons and would fill a premium defensive and offensive need for L.A.
If this offseason mirrors last winter, the market could move slowly. A year ago, several marquee names didn’t sign until after the New Year as elite free agents waited for the strongest possible offers. That trend could repeat itself, particularly with stars represented by Scott Boras, though not all of this class falls under his agency.
The Dodgers aren’t just favorites for Bichette. They are also listed among the most likely landing spots for Tucker and Bregman, the longtime Astros cornerstones who could hit the market at a time Houston faces payroll challenges.
Tucker’s 7/2 odds (+350) place Los Angeles just behind the Blue Jays (3/1) and ahead of the Giants (4/1) and Yankees (5/1). The two-time All-Star hit 29 home runs last season and remains one of the most consistent left-handed bats in baseball. His age, power, and defensive upside in right field make him one of the most valuable position players who could move.
Bregman, a two-time All-Star and former postseason hero, has the Dodgers at 5/1 odds, tied for fourth-best behind Philadelphia (5/2), Chicago (3/1) and the Yankees (4/1). While the Astros aren’t eliminated from contention, their 25/1 odds indicate they are long shots to retain him.
Los Angeles already has Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman and Shohei Ohtani anchoring one of the most dangerous lineups in the sport. But after back-to-back World Series titles, the organization is expected to be aggressive again.
Whether the market moves quickly or slowly, early odds suggest the Dodgers will be central players from Day 1 — and could be positioned to add another All-Star before spring training arrives.
Free agency officially opens Thursday.
