A couple was reportedly caught in the act while driving at a breakneck speed of 90mph, nearly causing a massive pile-up on Germany’s famed autobahn.
The duo, aged 37 and 33, were seen swerving across the A1 motorway this past Monday. An eyewitness who passed by their car dialed the police, claiming he saw the male driver and female passenger engaged in sexual activity.
The pair were apprehended at a gas station outside Münster, with the man now facing charges for dangerously disrupting road traffic.
Local news outlets reported that at one point, the car veered so sharply to the right that it forced a truck onto the hard shoulder. The car was headed towards Dortmund.
Germany’s Autobahn, the national highway system known for its large stretches without any speed limit, does have restrictions on about 30% of its roads. According to RAC, an additional 9% use traffic systems to maintain smooth operations.
Certain sections enforce strict limits, particularly in areas with heavy traffic or higher risk, reports The Mirror.
Back in July, a speed demon was busted zooming down the Autobahn at a jaw-dropping 200mph, exceeding the limit by over 124mph. The driver, whose identity remains undisclosed, was caught during a routine check on the A2 highway near Burg, just west of Berlin.
Magdeburg police reported that the speedster was slapped with a €900 (£784) fine, received a three-month driving ban, and had two points deducted from their license.
