Victoria Police says a woman has been arrested and charged in connection with an assault of an employee who tried to intervene in a theft downtown.

On Nov. 6 around 11:25 a.m., police were called to the 1200 block of Government Street for an assault.

Witnesses say a woman assaulted an employee after she was confronted about a theft.

Police found her nearby and arrested the woman “without incident” and found her to be in possession of multiple items that are believed to have been stolen.

Ashley Olsen, 36, was charged with theft and assault. She was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court on another theft charge.

She is being held for a bail hearing, and VicPD says the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has video footage is asked to contact the Victoria Police Department at (250) 995-7654, extension 1, or report anonymously to Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
