After receiving online backlash over his comments about the 2025 World Series between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Dodgers, Jason Kelce wants to set the record straight.

“Guys, I love Canada,” the former Philadelphia Eagles centre wrote in a post on X on Friday evening.

“How could I not love poutine, maple syrup and beavers!! I was actually rooting for the Blue Jays in a World Series I didn’t care about.”

Kelce said he was “bamboozled” by his podcast’s social media team, who “failed to show the whole story.”

Guys, I love Canada, I have been bamboozled by our social team that failed to show the whole story. How could I not love poutine, maple syrup, and beavers!! I was actually rooting for the Blue Jays in a World Series that I didn’t care about. Seriously, Canada is the best, I…

He is referring to the clip from the ‘New Heights’ podcast, which he co-hosts with his brother Travis, that went viral this week.

While Travis praised the World Series as an “awesome seven games of baseball,” Kelce dismissed the excitement, questioning, “You’re telling me I’m supposed to get excited about a Canadian baseball team and a team that spends more money than everybody else?”

“Who the f— cares about either?”

When Travis, who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs, pointed out that both teams have big payrolls, Kelce responded, “That’s why baseball sucks. You just buy World Series championships. It’s the dumbest thing in the world.”

“It’s exciting that the team that spent the most money and everybody knew was going to win the World Series,” he added. “Everybody knew this was going to happen before the season. We just had a bunch of meaningless sh– happen before it and then it happened. So, yeah, no, baseball’s not getting my stamp.”

The reaction, especially from Canadians online, was swift.

In his Friday post, Kelce pointed out that he is a known “Canada advocate” and “ice hockey lover.”

“Seriously, Canada is the best, I was just talking sh– about not being personally invested of caring that the team that spent the most money and built a super team won the World Series. That’s it.”

The Los Angeles Dodgers have the highest payroll, while the Blue Jays are fifth among 30 baseball teams. The Philadelphia Phillies have the fourth-highest payroll.

Heading into the World Series, the Dodgers were the favourite to win due to their starting pitchers and their lineup that features three future Hall of Famers.

Up 3-2 in the series, the Blue Jays had two chances to win their first Fall Classic title since 1993 at home but could not finish the job, falling to the defending champion Dodgers in extra innings.
