A man from Buncrana has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run collision in London.

The collision happened in the Bellingham area of South East London on Halloween night, the 31st of October.

Shortly after 10pm, a 65-year-old woman was struck by a car that Police say did not remain at the scene of the collision.

38-year-old Michael McLaughlin, of Heath Park, Buncrana, was arrested in connection with the incident on Friday in Northern Ireland according to the Metropolitan Police.

He was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop after a road traffic collision.

McLaughlin was escorted to England, where he was then interviewed at a Police station in South London.

The accused was later charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop after a road traffic collision.

He remains in custody, and will appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Monday the 10th of November in connection with the charges.

Police say that specialists are offering support to the family of the pedestrian in the wake of the incident.

Officers from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigative Unit say they continue to investigate the collision, and that they are still keen to speak to any potential witnesses who may have information.
