One person has been arrested and charged, while another remains outstanding, following what police are calling two “extortion-related” shootings in Peel Region.
The first incident happened on Oct. 26 near Old School Road and Creditview Road, west of Highway 10, in Caledon.
Peel Regional Police say just before 3 a.m. that day two suspects in a silver BMW SUV attended a residence in that area.
Investigators allege surveillance footage showed one of them an accelerant on the driveway and igniting a fire. Both suspects then fired several rounds at the residence, police say.
A short time later, the same two suspects allegedly attended a business near Dixie Road and Advance Boulevard, north of Highway 407, in Brampton.
Police say surveillance footage from that area showed a suspect firing several rounds toward a business from within a vehicle.
No injuries were reported in either incident.
On Nov. 7, Iqbal Bhagria, 25, of Brampton, was arrested and charged with one count each of arson, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and uttering a forged document as well as two counts of intentionally discharge a firearm recklessly.
He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
This investigation remains ongoing and police say they continue to work to identify and locate the second suspect involved in these incidents.
Anyone with further information is asked to Peel police’s 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau at 905-453-2121, ext. 2133, or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
