Liam Manning was dismissed within a couple of hours of the final whistle after an eighth Carrow Road home defeat on the spin in all competitions.

But Cifuentes has also faced growing calls to go, with last season’s relegated Premier League club winning only one of their previous 10.

Leicester also blew a home victory in midweek against Middlesbrough after conceding a stoppage time equaliser, but on this occasion it was Jordan James who clinched the points with a towering 92nd minute header.

“We are all very glad,” said Cifuentes. “Especially because I think we finished as the better team but also the mentality of the guys was brilliant after this difficult period where (Norwich) took the lead. I’m very happy for the group and I’m very happy for the fans. The guys, for many moments, especially in the second half, played really good. That’s the way we want to play and we need to get more of this.

“The main thing is the mentality. We have been speaking with the guys about the things we wanted to improve and, credit to them, in the last two games, in terms of attitude, in terms of togetherness, this commitment, has been excellent.

“I’m very pleased, I’m very happy, especially for the players because the last few days have not been easy.

“It was a big blow on Tuesday and the way this game developed, conceding the goal in the build-up situation, the personality we showed to keep playing, to believe in what we are trying to do and do it at the level we did in the last 25 minutes and finish as the better team, it shows very strong character and cultural strength that we want to have.”

Bobby De Cordova-Reid equalised within two minutes of his second half arrival.

“He was brilliant,” said Cifuentes. “I think that Bobby can be a very important player for us. Definitely he has not been lucky with injuries since the start of the season.

“But he’s a very good player, experienced. He knows and understands the game and he had a real impact. Not just because of the goal, but the help he gave to the midfield, the way he found the pockets.

“JJ, one of his best strengths is his capacity to get from the second line into the box. He has done brilliantly. He was feeling tired, a bit of pain, which is normal in a week like this. But he showed real character for not only the goal but the way he’s contributing to the whole team. He’s been a brilliant addition.”
