The Gist

Céline Dion is the youngest of 14. Her brothers and sisters are Denise, Clément, Claudette, Liette, Michel, Louise, Jacques, Daniel, Ghislaine, Linda, Manon, Paul, and Pauline Dion.

She married music producer René Angélil in December 1994, and the couple remained married until his passing in January 2016.

Dion and Angélil had three children together: René-Charles Angélil, born Jan. 25, 2001, and twins Nelson and Eddy Angélil, born Oct. 23, 2010.

Céline Dion may be one of the biggest superstars out there, but before the fame and the cameras came humble beginnings, and 13 siblings to match. (Yes, the French Canadian diva is one of a total of 14 children; more on that later.)

Throughout the years, the full family remained close. Céline’s father, Adhémar, died at the age of 80 in 2003, and her mother, Thérèse, died 17 years later at the age of 92. Tragically, her older brother Daniel also died of cancer in 2016, shortly after the “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” singer lost her husband to the same disease.

Now, Céline is focusing her efforts on supporting her family and three kids through her 2022 stiff-person syndrome diagnosis. While this condition makes it hard for the “That’s the Way It Is” singer to practice her craft, she has not given up on performing. For instance, she took the global stage at the 2024 Olympics and sang an Edith Piaf classic, “L’Hymne à l’Amour,” from the Eiffel Tower.

Céline Dion grew up in a big musical family.

The “My Heart Will Go On” singer was born into a family of musicians—on March 30, 1968, to be exact. Her father, Adhémar Dion, was a musician and butcher, and her mother, Thérèse Dion, was a TV personality. Céline is the youngest of her 13 siblings—named Denise, Clément, Claudette, Liette, Michel, Louise, Jacques, Daniel, Ghislaine, Linda, Manon, Paul, and Pauline. All of her brothers and sisters had a hand in music, and showed Céline the ropes at an early age.

The singer and vocalist’s siblings also introduced her to performing live. She would watch them sing at local restaurants and bars, including her parents’ piano bar. Undoubtedly, the future Grammy-winning singer was influenced by seeing her siblings’ dedication to their craft.

In addition to her first role as the baby of the family, Céline went on to marry her late husband, René Angélil, with whom she welcomed three sons: René-Charles, born Jan. 25, 2001, and twins Nelson and Eddy, born Oct. 23, 2010.

Her SiblingsDenise Dion

Born in August of 1946, Denise is the oldest of the 14 Dion siblings. She chooses to stay out of the spotlight and not much is known of her personal life.

Clément Dion

Born in 1947, Clément is the second-oldest Dion sibling. Like his older sister Denise, he also leads a private life. However, Clément owned Club de Golf Le Mirage in Terrebonne, Quebec, alongside Céline and her husband, René. Clément sold his shares to hockey legend Serge Savard in 2020.

Claudette Dion

The third-oldest Dion sibling, Claudette is also a champion of music. She was a judge for a local singing competition, L’Étoile des aînés, from 2010 to 2014 and competed on the reality TV show La Ferme Célébrités en Afrique in 2010.

She is now the CEO of the Foundation Maman Dion, a charity Claudette and her siblings founded in honor of their mother.

Though Liette lived most of her life out of the spotlight, the death of her daughter, Karine Ménard, was something Céline spoke about publicly. Karine was born in 1977 and tragically passed away due to cystic fibrosis at the age of 16 in 1993. In 1995, Céline dedicated the song “Vole” to her late niece, and later became an ambassador for the organization Cystic Fibrosis Canada.

Michel gave Céline her first singing gig—his 1970s wedding, at which she was five years old. Michel also worked as Céline’s assistant tour manager throughout her career, serving as a crucial figure for the Canadian singer.

Fun fact: It was actually Michel who sent a tape of Céline singing to her future husband and manager, Angélil, who later invited her to audition for him.

Jacques played a critical role in his sister Céline’s career, co-writing her very first song “Ce n’était qu’un rêve” when she was 12 and he was 25.

In addition to launching his sister’s musical career, Jacques was a part of a singing duo with his wife, Geneviève Garceau. He later had to step away from the limelight when his son, Jimmy, was in a severe skiing accident in 2003 that left him partially paralyzed. It wasn’t until 14 years later in 2017 that Jacques and Geneviève returned to the stage.

The eighth Dion sibling and fourth boy, Daniel was known as “a man of many talents,” according to his family. Daniel sadly passed away in 2016 from cancer, shortly after the death of Céline’s husband, Réne.

Born in 1958, Ghislaine is the ninth Dion sibling. Like many of her brothers and sisters, she’s a talented singer. In 2015, Ghislaine was diagnosed with throat cancer but later went into remission in 2021.

Céline’s older sister Linda is a huge support to the Grammy-winning singer. After the birth of Céline’s twin boys, Eddy and Nelson, Linda and her mom, Thérèse, helped Céline with housework as well as caring for the two newborns. She is also the children’s godmother.

Manon Dion

Born in 1960, the 11th Dion sibling lives most of her life outside of the public eye. In the past, Manon has worked as Céline’s personal assistant and hairdresser, accompanying her on tour and throughout various public appearances.

Turns out twins run in the family! The 12th and 13th Dion siblings, Paul and Pauline, were born in 1962 and have also been heavily involved in their sister’s career. Pauline is reported to run Céline’s fan club, while Paul works with their late mother’s charity, Foundation Maman Dion.

Dion and Angélil first met in 1980 when Angélil started working as her manager; the future Grammy winner was only 12 years old. The relationship turned romantic when Céline was 19. The two kept their relationship out of the spotlight until 1993, when they announced their engagement.

Céline and Angélil married the following year in 1994. The two were married for 22 years until Angélil’s death from throat cancer in 2016. In their time together, the couple welcomed three children: René-Charles, who was born in 2001, and then twin boys, Nelson and Eddy, born in 2010.

Following fertility treatments, Céline and Angélil welcomed their first child, a baby boy, in January of 2001. Born in Palm Beach, Florida, the baby was named René-Charles Angélil, after his father. He was later baptized in July 2001.

Now in his 20s, René-Charles is a fan of hockey and R&B, which is his genre of choice as an artist. At the 2024 Grammys, he accompanied his mother on stage—where she presented Taylor Swift with the Album of the Year award. He is also a top-tier older sibling to his twin brothers Nelson and Eddy.

Céline underwent additional IVF treatments in an effort to expand her family. After several rounds, the singer announced she was pregnant in May 2010. Later that year, the couple welcomed twin boys, Nelson and Eddy Angélil, on October 23, 2010. Born via cesarean section, the babies arrived weighing 5 lbs., 4 oz. and 5 lbs., 10 oz., respectively.

The couple named their children after notable figures. Nelson was named after the famous South African President and anti-apartheid activist Nelson Mandela, and Eddy was named after the French songwriter, Eddy Marnay, who produced Céline’s early albums.
