Earlier this morning, emergency crews were dispatched as part of a coordinated multi-agency response led by the Irish Coast Guard.
A rescue operation was launched following a call made to the Marine Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) by members of An Garda SÃochána, reporting that a teenager had entered the River Suir near Grannagh.
The swift and efficient actions of multiple rescue teams resulted in a successful outcome. The young individual was located and safely rescued from the water by personnel from the Waterford City Fire Service, with critical support from Waterford City River Rescue CRBI.
In addition, Coast Guard Rescue Helicopter Rescue 117 was deployed to assist in the operation.
Following the rescue, the teenager was transferred to Waterford Ambulance Station staff and transported to University Hospital Waterford for treatment.
In a statement, Waterford City River Rescue said: “Our thoughts are with the individual and their family, and we wish them a full and speedy recovery. We extend our sincere thanks to all the emergency services involved and to the Irish Coast Guard for their expert coordination, which contributed to the successful resolution of this potentially tragic situation.”
