A colossal Arctic blast is set to sweep across the UK later this month, with 25 counties bracing for widespread snowfall, including areas of the North East.

WXCharts’ weather maps, utilising MetDesk data, predict a wintry shift from 23 November as icy winds traverse numerous counties. Scotland is expected to feel the full force of the chill as it descends from the north.

The maps indicate that the Highlands and parts of Aberdeenshire will experience snow depths of between 18 to 20cm. The purple shading suggests significant snow accumulation from Inverness to Perth, with notable flurries anticipated in the central belt encompassing Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Northern England won’t be spared from the snowfall, with white forecasts predicted for the Pennines, Cumbria, and North Wales. Areas around Manchester, Newcastle, and Derbyshire are also expected to see a dusting of snow, according to the weather maps.

Another map reveals that maximum temperatures on 23 November are likely to hover around -1C and -2C in the Highlands region. In the north of England, temperatures are forecasted to be between 0C and 3C, while the South East could enjoy warmer conditions with temperatures ranging from 4C to 7C, reports the Mirror.

The Met Office has indicated the possibility of snowfall later this month, particularly in the country’s higher regions. In its forecast spanning from 24 November to 8 December, the Met Office stated: “Whilst the expected weather patterns during late November are very uncertain, there is a greater chance of spells of high pressure during this period, bringing more in the way of dry weather compared to the current weather pattern, which also increases the chances of overnight fog and frost.

“There will probably still be some spells of rain, showers, and stronger winds though, especially in the west. Hill snow is also a possibility, mainly in the north. Overall, near or slightly above average temperatures are most likely, though some colder spells are also possible, especially should any prolonged settled spells develop.”
