Xenomorphs, Facehuggers, and Eye Midges have only just begun their horrifying work.

FX has announced that Alien: Earth, which featured a frightening collection of old and new interstellar creatures, will return for Season 2, with Noah Hawley back as showrunner. On Nov. 11, the Emmy-winning producer of Fargo (2014) signed an overall deal with FX and Disney Entertainment Television, with the second season of his hit drama series being the first project announced.

A “thrilled” Hawley said the following about his new deal: “FX has always supported bold, character-driven storytelling. From the very beginning with Fargo, they’ve encouraged me to take creative risks and follow the story wherever it leads. I’m grateful to continue exploring the world of Alien: Earth alongside our partners, cast, and crew as we begin the next chapter.”

When is the Season 2 premiere date?

Stay tuned on that. The first season of Alien: Earth debuted in August 2025, but that was after several years of pre-production, filming, and post-production. Filming for Season 2 will begin in London in 2026, so our educated guess is that the new episodes will premiere sometime in 2027, to give the show plenty of time to deliver its flawless final cut.

Who are the Season 2 cast members?

Notable cast members from the first season that will likely return include: Sydney Chandler as Wendy, an adult woman with a child’s consciousness; Babou Ceesay as Morrow, a cyborg security officer; Timothy Olyphant as Kirsh, a synthetic who serves as Wendy’s mentor; Alex Lawther as CJ “Hermit,” a soldier and Wendy’s brother; Samuel Blenkin as Boy Kavalier, a young CEO who’s often seen barefoot; Essie Davis as Dame Sylvia, an employee of Prodigy; David Rysdahl as Arthur Sylvia, a dead scientist who has just been reanimated by the Eye Midge; and Sandra Yi Sencindiver as Yutani, a rival CEO.

Wendy’s fellow surviving Lost Boys are Adarsh Gourav as Slightly, Erana James as Curly, Lily Newmark as Nibs, and Jonathan Ajayi as Smee. Check out Gold Derby’s exclusive interview with this eclectic group of actors.

What is the Season 2 timeline?

Alien: Earth is a prequel to the 1979 Alien movie, directed by Ridley Scott and conceived by Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett. That original was set in 2122 aboard the commercial spaceship Nostromo, which places Alien: Earth in the year 2120. The first season took place over several days and ended on a cliffhanger, so it stands to reason the second season will pick up in the same time period.

How did Season 1 end?

Season 1 of Alien: Earth culminated in Wendy and the Lost Boys — a group of synthetic beings implanted with the consciousnesses of children — turning the tables on their adult creators. Boy Kavalier, now imprisoned, laughed manically at the fact that Wendy’s team had gotten the upper hand. “Now we rule,” Wendy stated as the final credits rolled. Elsewhere, the Eye Midge implanted itself in the eye socket of the deceased Arthur Sylvia, and was now controlling his body — not creepy at all!

Who are the creators?

Hawley is the showrunner, executive producer, writer, and director for Alien: Earth. Additional executive producers are Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, Joseph Iberti, Dana Gonzales, and Clayton Krueger. Hawley, Gonzales, and Ugla Hauksdóttir tag-teamed on directing the eight episodes, while Hawley wrote or cowrote all of them with Bob DeLaurentis, Bobak Esfarjani, Lisa Long, Maria Melnik, and Migizi Pensoneau.

FX Chairman John Landgraf said the following about Hawley’s overall deal: “It has been our great privilege to work with Noah for more than a decade on some of FX’s best and biggest shows, and we are thrilled to extend our partnership well into the future. Noah never stops surprising us with truly original stories — and his unique ability to bring them to vibrant life as a director and producer as well as writer makes him extraordinary. We can’t wait to get to work on the next season of Alien: Earth, as well as some equally exciting future projects in advanced development.”

Sigourney Weaver speaks out

Sigourney Weaver, the star of the first four Alien movies, said at 2025’s New York Comic Con that she’d met with executives at Disney — which has owned the franchise since purchasing 20th Century Fox in 2019 — about the possibility of another Ripley adventure based on Walter Hill’s storyline. “What Walter has written seems so true to me,” Weaver said. “[His script is] very much about the society that would incarcerate someone who has tried to help mankind, but she’s a problem to them, so she’s sort of tucked away.”

She added, “I think it’s a very strong first 50 pages. I’m thinking about working with Walter to see what the rest of the story would be. It would not be running around airshafts — it would be a very different kind of Alien. Scary, of course, [because] the alien does show up, inevitably. But I love what he’s done with the character. He really gets her strength and her anger and her humor. It’s surprisingly hard to write Ripley.”

As for what Weaver thought of Hawley’s continuation, she declared, “The cast, the direction, and everything else is just extraordinary.” Fun fact: Ripley is still alive during the time period in which Alien: Earth takes place, so it wouldn’t be out of the question to see her pop up on the TV show. The actress received an Oscar nomination for playing Ripley in Aliens (1986), plus two more bids for Working Girl (1988) and Gorillas in the Mist (1988).
