Ottawa police are warning the public that a convicted man is now living in the Rideau-Vanier area of the nation’s capital.
According to a press release, Christopher Watts, 64, has been deemed a high-risk offender since 2015. He has moved all over Canada before coming to Ottawa. Police believe that Watts poses a risk to the community, particularly girls under the age of 18.
A press release from Halifax Regional Municipality notes that Watts was released from a federal facility in British Columbia on Aug. 1, 2017. He served a sentence for manslaughter, sexual interference and sexual assault.
“He has exhibited a pattern of providing large quantities of drugs to young girls and engaging in sexual activity with them without regard for their ability to consent,” the release reads.
In February 2022, Kingston police issued a similar message when Watts moved there.
He is under a long-term supervision order and must abide by several conditions including:
Not to be within 50 metres of an area where children congregate such as, schools, parks, swimming pools and recreation centres unless he is with an adult approved by his parole supervisor
Not to be in the presence of any female children under the age of 18
Not to consume, purchase or have drugs
Not to consume, purchase or have alcohol
Officials said that they believe Watts has a high risk of reoffending or breaching these terms, which is why they put out the statement and his photo. He is going to be monitored by the Correctional Services of Canada and the Ottawa police high-risk offender management unit.
Anyone who is aware of potential breaches to Watts’ conditions should not approach him, but instead should call contact the Ottawa police at 613-236-1222 ext. 4395.
