The victim tried to run away before the armed man slashed him again, this time on the upper body.
“The worker was here by himself, he’d just opened the factory at the time of the incident,” Detective Sergeant Chris Hussey said.
“It was very quick. It would’ve been over in approximately 30 seconds, if even that long.”
The offender, who was wearing dark clothing and a balaclava, fled the scene in the car, described as a black SUV.

“We believe there was a driver waiting for him in a car… it was last seen travelling north on Mount Alexander Road,” Hussey said.
The victim called emergency services, who quickly arrived on scene to provide medical treatment.
The Doreen man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
Police believe it was a targeted attack and there is no risk to the community.
Detectives are urging anyone who was in the area at the time, who may have dashcam or CCTV vision, to come forward.
