A misleading edit in a BBC documentary has become the target of a $1 billion lawsuit threat from US President Donald Trump and triggered the resignation of the British public broadcaster’s director-general, Tim Davie.

BBC Chairman Samir Shah issued an apology over the Panorama documentary, which mixed excerpts from a speech Trump gave before the Jan. 6, 2021 riot at the US Capitol in Washington DC. Shah said the documentary “wrongly gave the impression of a direct call for violent action.”
