Sydney Sweeney Makes Waves With the Wet Hair Trend at GQ Men of the Year 2025

At the GQ Men of the Year party in Los Angeles on Thursday, Sydney Sweeney rifled her new hairdo for a trendy style.

Thanks to her close friend and collaborator, Glen Oropeza, the “Euphoria” star entered her bob era last month, debuting the fresh cut and blond color for the AFI Fest 2025 premiere of her new film, “Christy.” On Thursday night, however, the two imagined what the above-the-shoulders style would look like wet lathering gel throughout Sweeney’s hair.

Tiny ripples formed from her brown roots to her blond ends, making it look as if she’d not had time to comb her hair after a shower. The gelled pieces at the front were parted to the left of her forehead, highlighting her darker undertones. Paired with her dark eye look, black velvet gown and choker necklace, the “Anyone But You” star’s aesthetic harked back to 1990s grunge. That said, the made-to-look-wet hairstyle has been a favorite of many actresses, actors and artists alike more recently.

From Kim Kardashian to Zendaya, a list of stars have tried their hand — or head, rather — at the wet hairdo. While some celebrity stylists prefer to use mousse, others go in with a heavy gel to mimic that post-shower appearance.

This was the first time Sweeney touted the style with her bob. She has, however, stepped out with a slicked side part, soft waves and flipped ends. As for why she made the switch from her signature medium-length to the ultra-short hairdo, Oropeza told WWD she was “bored.”

“We needed a cut to take it to the next level and make it feel different,” he said. “She did want to do bangs with the bob and the blond. I just felt like it would be when you do an eye look with a red lip and heavy blush; it’s too much competing with each other. We wanted it to be refined and beautiful and stand out on its own. The bangs would have taken it a step too far.”
