One person is facing more than a dozen charges in connection with the trafficking of stolen vehicles involving an auto dealership in Hamilton.

In a news release on Friday, Hamilton police revealed the results of its investigation dubbed “Project Big Cat.”

Investigators determined that Bengal Auto, located near Kenilworth Avenue North and Barton Street East, had been allegedly involved in the trafficking of stolen vehicles over several years.

“Stolen vehicles were fraudulently registered through the dealership, with vehicle identification numbers (VINs) cloned or altered to appear legitimate,” police said.

On Thursday, investigators executed several search warrants in Hamilton and, as a result, arrested a 30-year-old man.

They’ve also identified over 36 stolen vehicles worth $2.7 million, and of those, 23 have been recovered.

The man has been charged with 15 offences, including fraud, trafficking in property obtained by crime, possession of property obtained by crime, and using and making of forged documents.

Police are asking anyone with information about the investigation to contact them at 905-546-3849 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
