When emergency crews arrived, police said, the man was found suffering from apparent stab wounds.
One male suspect, in his mid forties, has been arrested in connection with the incident, police said.
It is not immediately clear what charges that individual will face.
Police are currently investigating the relationship between the victim and the suspect.
“As you can imagine this a very serious crime and we are interviewing witnesses, victims and we are reviewing video evidence so it is far too early for me to speculate (on what happened),” Maslowski said.
Maslowski said that the 55-year-old victim is currently in hospital suffering from life-threating wounds.
He said that officers are looking to speak with anyone who was in the vicinity of St. Clair Avenue West and Runnymede Road at around 3 a.m.
