Protests against President Claudia Sheinbaum turned violent in Mexico City on Saturday as frustration mounts over the government’s inability to stop violence and provide opportunities amid a slowing economy.
After hours of clashes, police regained control of the area. Pablo Vazquez, Mexico City’s chief of police, said that 20 people were arrested and will be charged with battery, assault and robbery. He added that 60 police officers were injured, 40 of whom were hospitalized.
