Large-scale search efforts have been suspended for a missing girl after a family of three was swept into the water at Garrapata Beach. Both the Coast Guard and the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office remain on standby with helicopters, dive teams, and other major resources previously used in the search.In the event of further development in the the search, or a sighting, these resources will be available.As of Sunday morning, California State Parks is continuing the search. Personnel are patrolling the shoreline along with other accessible areas on foot and by vehicle. A multi-agency search effort continued Saturday for the missing child after a family of three was swept into the water at Garrapata Beach.The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office responded Friday to a water rescue incident at Garrapata State Beach, located along Highway 1 just north of the Rocky Point Restaurant.Two adults were pulled out of the water, and a 5-year-old is still missing. Officials say information provided to them confirms that the child was last seen wearing a white shirt and not a red shirt as previously reported.State Parks previously told KSBW that CPR was performed on the father, who was transported to a local hospital. The mother was also transported to the hospital and had signs of hypothermia.Hours later, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the man had passed away. He has since been identified as 39-year-old Yuji Hu, of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.The mother has been listed in stable condition with mild hypothermia.A buoy located further off the coast, but near Garrapata, reported water temperature at 59 degrees Fahrenheit with a wave height of 14.State Parks is being assisted at the scene by Coast Guard, CHP, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office and CAL FIRE BEU. People driving along Highway 1 through the area are being asked to avoid stopping at Garrapata State Beach to allow emergency services space to conduct their search operations.This is a developing story.
