The Lions’ stand-off had moments of brilliance in the first half, notably when he sent Dempsey clean through for Scotland’s opening try. Moreover, he converted all three of Scotland’s tries and made it four from four with a second half penalty. But that long pass intended for Steyn triggered the critical momentum switch  and it is on such decision-making and execution that international players are judged. [Santiago Chocobares – 6.5]

Started well after being drafted in to the starting XV.  Some really good high box-kicks and touch finders were among the pluses but his energy level dipped towards the end of the game. Was guilty of kicking away possession when Scotland were chasing the game in the final minutes of the match. [Simón Benítez Cruz – 6.5]

The big South African again showed his value with an 80 minute performance. Strong scrummaging throughout and lively in the loose. Finger can hardly be pointed at him for the final quarter disaster. [Mayco Vivas – 6]

We’re used to seeing Ashman scoring tries from the driving maul but his brace of scores against Argentina required different skills, the spiral out of a tackle for his first half try being top drawer. His second half try was all about following the ball and then using strength and speed to make the kill. Throwing-on to the line-out accurate. Scotland’s best forward. [Julián Montoya – 7.5]

After a very encouraging display against New Zealand, it was disappointing that the tight-head prop lasted only 33 minutes here. Gave away two penalties that could have been costly but scrummaged decently. [Pedro Delgado – 6.5]

The Glasgow Warrior did well in the line-out and did the chore work required of a second-row but never really stamped his authority on the game. Like so many in the Scotland team, he faded towards the end. [Guido Petti – 7]

Contributed with a few good tackles but otherwise not prominent in a game that was much more back-play oriented. Secure in the line-out. Subbed for the last 10 minutes. [Pedro Rubiolo – 7]

Lasted only seven minutes before being forced to retire for a head knock examination.  At least that saved him the embarrassment of being involved in what was to unfold in the final 23 minutes. [Santiago Grondona –  6.5]

Didn’t really stamp his authority on the game and the impression from his performance versus Argentina and his appearance against New Zealand is that he has yet to recover the form he showed in previous seasons. [Juan Martín González – 7.5]

Took his try well and made good yards with ball in hand at other times. Still below his best but if he can add a bit more to his game before the Six Nations then he will contribute substantially to the Scotland effort. [Joaquín Oviedo – 7]

Another 10 minute appearance. Came on for Ashman at the worst possible time and had no chance to influence the game. First line-out not secure.

Not used.

Performed soundly at tight-head when he replaced D’arcy Rae. Good to know that Scotland have three plausible No 3s.

The younger Fagerson has not hit the form he has shown previously in a Scotland jersey. Came on for Gregor Brown after only seven minutes but never really exhibited his true skills

Came off the bench for Grant Gilchrist, meaning he had to play in the second-row, where he was generally hidden from view during the great unravelling.

Not used.

Got the last minute.

Came on for Rory Hutchinson AND was pretty anonymous in the 16 minutes he was on the field.  Never had a chance to show his power game in attack.
