A notorious shoplifter has been jailed for another two months after being caught stealing €300 of clothing.
Brian Ward appeared at Letterkenny District Court.
He was charged with stealing €300 of clothing from Next in Letterkenny on November 25th, 2022
Ward, of Donegal Road in Ballyshannon, is already serving a jail sentence at Castlerea Prison for a series of shoplifting offences.
Garda Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that Ward was with another man at Next when they passed all points of payment and didn’t pay for the €300 worth of clothing.
They were identified on CCTV and later arrested and were cooperative Gardai.
Ward has 96 previous convictions including a large number for shoplifting.
He was jailed last month for a series of thefts at various stores including Penneys, TK Maxx and Sweeney Express Store in Letterkenny.
His solicitor, Mr Rory O’Brien, said his client has a “very poor record” and these offences occurred at the height of chronic alcohol addiction which has blighted the majority of Ward’s adult life.
Judge Ciaran Liddy sentenced Ward to two months in prison for his latest theft charge.
