Rising tennis star Victoria Mboko led Team Canada to a 2-0 Playoff-Off win over Mexico on Sunday, securing a spot in the 2026 Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers.
After her teammate Carson Branstine defeated Julia Garcia 6-3, 7-6 to open the tie, Mboko overcame Mexico’s Renata Zarazua 6-1, 6-1 to seal the deal.
The 19-year-old needed just 53 minutes to clinch the encounter.
“Today was obviously a difficult match. It’s never easy to play a really great, talented player, especially in their home country. I’m glad I was able to lock in and get the win today for the team,” Mboko told the Canadian Press.
The Canadians had defeated Denmark 2-1 on Saturday, setting up the winner-takes-all match against Mexico.
The Billie-Jean Play-offs 2026 qualifiers will be played on a home-or-away tie format in April.
