Leeds United are showing serious interest in a move for Republic of Ireland striker Troy Parrott, according to Dutch publication VoetbalNieuws.

The Elland Road side have reportedly set their sights on landing the forward mid-season and have already entered discussions with AZ Alkmaar over a move.

Parrott made headlines last week as his five goals in two appearances propelled the Republic of Ireland into the World Cup play-offs, with the 23-year-old striker scoring a hat-trick in Sunday’s 3-2 comeback win against Hungary.

It came after his two-goal display in Thursday’s 2-0 victory over Portugal and kept the team in contention for a World Cup spot for the first time since 2002.

Parrott joined AZ from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2024 and is under contract until June 2029 with the Eredivisie side.

According to VoetbalNieuws, Leeds tried to sign Parrott during the summer transfer window and tested AZ’s resolve with an official proposal for the in-form Irish striker.

The Whites have kept tabs on the 23-year-old since their unsuccessful pursuit and have now re-entered discussions to land him when the market reopens in January.

Parrott impressed in his first season in the Netherlands in 2024/25, scoring 20 goals and providing five assists in 47 appearances in all competitions.

The Dublin-born ace helped AZ reach the last 16 of the Europa League, where they lost 3-2 on aggregate to eventual winners and Parrott’s former club Tottenham.

The 23-year-old, who joined Spurs’ youth ranks in 2017, made only four senior appearances during his seven years at the club, including two in the Premier League.

Parrott also spent time on loan at Millwall, Ipswich, MK Dons, Preston and Eredivisie side Excelsior before departing Tottenham permanently in July last year.

VoetbalNieuws claims Parrott’s departure would likely be a club-record sale for AZ, potentially surpassing the exits of both Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Tijjani Reijnders, who joined Brighton and AC Milan from the Dutch side respectively.

It is expected that AZ could look to secure more than €30m (£26m) for the 23-year-old striker, who has scored 18 goals for club and country already this season.

Leeds welcomed strikers Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha this summer, with the duo scoring three goals between them in the Premier League so far this campaign.
