Sophie Grégoire has seemingly opened up about her estranged husband Justin Trudeau‘s rumored romance with singer Katy Perry. During an appearance on the Arlene Is Alone podcast on November 12, the former First Lady of Canada made rare comments on what it’s like to see a former partner with someone new.

Host Arlene Dickinson asked Grégoire about Trudeau and Perry’s relationship. “We’re human beings and stuff affects us. Normal,” Grégoire replied. “How you react to stuff is your decision. So I choose to try to listen to the music instead of the noise.”

She added that she makes a conscious effort to avoid the “public stuff.” “I’m very aware that a lot of public stuff out there can be triggers. Right, we’re humans,” she said. “What I do with it is my decision. The woman I want to become through this is my decision.”
Grégoire and Trudeau married in 2005 and were together throughout most of his time as Prime Minister of Canada from 2015 to 2025. They also share two children: Xavier and Ella-Grace. They announced their separation in 2023.
“They have worked to ensure that all legal and ethical steps with regards to their decision to separate have been taken, and will continue to do so moving forward,” read a statement at the time.
Meanwhile, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom were together from 2016 until 2025 and share daughter Daisy.

A month after the pair announced their split, Perry and Trudeau were spotted dining together in Montreal. Since then, the pair have been seen getting close on a private yacht and walking hand-in-hand while celebrating Perry’s birthday. Perry later seemingly soft launched their relationship, including Trudeau in a video as part of her Instagram birthday post. A few weeks ago, she also seemingly commented on her new relationship, playfully rejecting a fan’s proposal during her tour, saying, “I am dating someone else for crying out fucking loud.”
