A 40-year-old woman has been charged with first-degree murder after a 44-year-old woman was found dead at a Kitchener residence Monday afternoon.

Around 12:50 p.m., police were called to a residence at Highland Road West and Patricia Avenue for a report of a disturbance.

Upon arrival, officers located the 44-year-old Kitchener woman who was dead. The 40-year-old Kitchener woman was taken into custody at the scene. She was later arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

Investigators believe the two are known to each other.

Waterloo Regional Police Service’s Major Crime Unit, Special Victims Unit, and the Forensic Identification Unit are investigating.

There will be an increased police presence in the area as officers conduct a canvass for witnesses and gather additional information.
