More than a dozen B.C. workplaces have been recognized for how well employees are treated in MediaCorp Canada’s new list of Canada’s Top 100 Employers.

Government positions appear to be some of the province’s best, with the BC Public Service and one health authority recognized for bolstering workers’ well-being.

Some B.C.-grown private sector companies, including a Burnaby-based law software company and a well-known credit union, also got the nod.

Organizations are evaluated on several criteria: workplace, work atmosphere, health, financial and family benefits, vacation and time off, employee communications, performance management, training and skills development, and community involvement.

This refers to the employer of provincial government staff, accounting for approximately 35,000 positions across B.C. These workers, primarily based in Victoria and Vancouver, enjoy generous parental benefits.

New mothers get a full year of maternity leave, and new fathers and adoptive parents are eligible for 75% of their salary for up to 35 weeks. New parents also have the option of extending their leave into an unpaid leave of absence.

This charity in Burnaby made the best employers list for its iVolunteer program, where employees get four paid volunteer days and are encouraged to donate their time to other charitable and non-profit initiatives.

This portfolio management company allows employees to work from another location for up to four weeks a year with its formal work-from-anywhere policy.

This Vancouver-based software solutions company was recognized for giving head office employees access to a free, fully furnished onsite fitness facility with instructor-led classes for yoga, circuit training, weight training, and more.

This North Vancouver freight transportation company started the Courage to Care program to give financial support to employees seeking addiction treatment or care for mental health challenges.

The electric utility company, which serves over five million customers across British Columbia, was recognized as one of the best employers for creating the Community Hero award. It celebrates employees who assist in emergency situations, ranging from car accidents to search-and-rescue operations.

This Vancouver engineering firm specializing in surveying and mapping services has an onsite fitness facility with instructor-led classes. Employees get a discounted membership.

The construction management company has enacted a compassionate leave top-up policy, which allows employees to take up to 15 weeks of paid leave to look after a loved one.

This Metro Vancouver post-secondary institution got the nod for providing employees with free access to fitness facilities, including instructor-led classes as well as personalized fitness consultations.

This Vancouver-headquartered mining company was spotlighted for the variety of company-paid holiday celebrations for employees, including a huge holiday party for over 700 employees and guests.

This legal software company, headquartered in Burnaby with a hybrid work model, was recognized for its formal Intentional Gatherings program that ensures teams have time to connect when they’re together onsite.

The regional health authority was lauded for its several spaces that allow employees to unwind and recharge during the day. They include outdoor courtyards, green spaces, and an employee lounge that was recently renovated.

This 125-year-old construction contract company in Surrey supports employees with direct RSP contributions and has a formal year-end bonus program.

This timber company was celebrated for supporting the next generation of foresters with summer jobs, internships and apprenticeships. West Fraser also runs a New and Young Worker program that is dedicated to training young mill employees.
