Eggslut is officially coming to Australia for the first time but won’t be known by the same name. The cult US chain, which has been around since 2011, has restaurants in LA, Las Vegas, Tokyo, Kuwait, and London.
It will soon find a home in Perth, with the restaurant set to be built in the city’s Crown Casino by February. Yahoo Lifestyle reporter Lachlan, who tried Eggslut on a recent trip to the US, said the menu was pretty delicious.
“When I visited LA earlier this year, I knew I had to try Eggslut after seeing it all over TikTok,” he said.
“I tried the sausage and egg burger and hash brown bites and immediately understood the hype. I can’t wait until it comes Down Under.”

What is Eggslut?
Eggslut has a bunch of egg-based items that would be found at most Aussie cafes and restaurants.
The signature dish, The Slut, features a cage-free coddled egg on top of a smooth potato purée, poached in a glass jar, topped with gray salt and chives, served with slices of baguette
They also have a bunch of burgers, sandwiches and sides to choose from.
Eggslut co-owner Andy Lee told Perth Now that it was really exciting to launch Down Under.
“From our humble LA food truck beginnings to now, we’ve always believed that a simple ingredient cooked thoughtfully can create memorable moments,” he said.
Eggslut won’t be called Eggslut in Australia
But those who want to soak up those egg-related menu items in Australia shouldn’t be on the lookout for the chain’s iconic and controversial name.
Instead of being called Eggslut in Perth, it will instead be called Burgers by ES.
This follows a 2018 case where a Brisbane man unrelated to the US chain wanted to register the business name Eggslut.
The corporate regulator blocked Peter Coster from doing so because the name was “undesirable”, likely because it included the word “slut”, according to Smart Company.
The Oxford Dictionary said slut is an “offensive” and “derogatory” term that means a woman who has “many casual sexual partners”.

Despite being initially blocked, Peter took his fight to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal to see if it would rule in his favour.
“The applicant says the addition of the qualifier ‘Egg’ draws the misogynistic sting of the word slut,” Tribunal deputy president Bernard McCabe said.
“The applicant argues the expression is a cheeky way of referring (and appealing) to voracious consumers of eggs and egg-based dishes.”

While Peter understood that Eggslut could have the “capacity to startle” customers or passersby, he thought that “most publicity is good publicity” and could give his business “a marketing edge without really offending anyone”.
He even got an English-language expert to claim the offensive term might lose a bit of its sting if it was combined with something common like eggs.
But McCabe eventually blocked the request.
“It is difficult to look past the fact the word is primarily used as a nasty slur that is intended to hurt and shame those who are thought to transgress conventions of sexual morality,” he said.
“The use of the word ‘slut’, even in a compound expression where it is qualified, retains its capacity to offend at least a substantial section of the public — most obviously women, or many women, for whom it holds a strong pejorative sting that is not drawn through the use of a qualifier.”
