Sources in Agudat Yisrael responded to the Supreme Court ruling, stating that “the court proved it doesn’t want a conscription law but rather a civil war, it has given weapons to the Haredi extremists who are growing in numbers within the Haredi community. If equality is so important to the court, it should also draft Israeli Arabs for civil service.” Senior officials in United Torah Judaism blamed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: “This is a severe blow to the Haredim, a direct result of his broken promises and foot-dragging for almost three years.”
