Steven Bailey, whose BAC was .325 when the crash occurred, pleaded guilty in May to two counts of third-degree murder for killing Kristina Folkerts and Gabe Harvey.

MINNEAPOLIS — The man who killed two people and injured multiple others after plowing into a crowded patio at Park Tavern while drunk will spend the next 30 years behind bars.

Steven Bailey was sentenced to 360 months, or 30 years, Monday in Hennepin County District Court for the incident, which took place in September of 2024. Bailey’s blood alcohol content registered .325 — more than four times the legal limit — when he drove his vehicle into the patio, killing Park Tavern server Kristina Folkerts and Methodist Hospital employee Gabe Harvey.

A handful of others, including some of Harvey’s co-workers, suffered severe injuries in the crash and spent extended time in the hospital.

During the victim impact statements, an advocate read letters written by Kristina Folkerts’ father and stepmother. Her father, John, spoke of how badly he misses Kristina and rarely sees his three granddaughters, as they now live with their fathers. The losses have left him struggling with depression and anxiety.

“I will never heal,” he wrote. “I will never be the same.”

Kristina’s stepmother wrote about Steven Bailey’s multiple DWIs, his decision to drive that night and how the consequences left their lives in pieces. “There is so much hurt, pain, anger and sorrow,” she shared.

Teegan D’Albani walked slowly to the podium and told the courtroom about putting her toddler to bed that night and going to meet friends at Park Tavern. She recalled the car speeding at them, looking down at legs that were suddenly broken and backward, and shared the long list of injuries that kept her in the hospital for 40 days. Seven surgeries later, D’Albani is unable to work and struggles with guilt, asking herself why she went out, why she survived, and why others did not.

“I believe in forgiveness, but this act is unforgivable,” she said. “I’m going to go to bed knowing Mr. Bailey will go to jail for several decades, and I feel good about that.”

Court records obtained by KARE 11 show Bailey has been convicted of drunk driving at least five previous times in his life.

Immediately before his sentencing, Bailey told the court, “I don’t think there’s anything more I can say … to ease the pain I’ve caused.”

The judge handed down a sentence of 180 months for each murder charge, to be served consecutively. Additionally, Bailey was sentenced to 38 months for each count of criminal vehicular operation causing great bodily harm, which the judge said will be served concurrently.

Bailey is required to serve at least two-thirds of his sentence in prison, with the possibility of serving a third of his sentence on supervised release. He will receive credit for 43 days already served.
