While Troy Parrott’s heroics for Ireland last week may have caught many general football fans off guard, his rise to international prominence was not a huge surprise in this country.
Parrott has come on in leaps and bounds over the last 18 months or, with his move to the Netherlands proving to be a real turning point in his career. The Dubliner has established himself as one of the best strikers in the Eredivisie, notching 13 goals in 14 appearances at club level this season.
The 23-year old has now brought that form to an Ireland shirt. As for his future at club level, it is likely that interest in the player will only increase over the coming months.

The €30million fee being mentioned is likely to be in the right ballpark for a player of Parrott’s age and production, with AZ Alkmaar a club who are willing to part with their prized assets if the price is right.
In saying that, it remains to be seen whether the player himself would be keen on a return to England. He has thrived since moving to the continent, with The 42 reporting last week that Parrott was keen to join another European club when his next move does eventually come.
Of course, the finances on offer for both the player and his current club could end up being a decisive factor.
It will be interesting to see if the Ireland star could be tempted by a transfer as soon as the January window.
